Glasgow is world renowned for our heritage buildings across the city. We play a key role in the future sustainability of these buildings.
Our specialist construction and investment teams work hard to ensure the skills are available to protect our heritage buildings for future generations.
This includes the delivery of skills required to deliver the ambitious goals towards achieving net zero in Glasgow by the retrofit of renewable technologies.
Our dedicated team of experts who can manage and maintain these beautiful buildings work closely with colleagues in Glasgow City Council to identify a range of support to ensure they are maintained to the highest standards.
Our recent work includes:
Provand’s Lordship, Glasgow’s oldest house built in 1471, is an A-listed landmark of great historical significance. City Building undertook extensive external restoration works to preserve its original character while incorporating essential modern upgrades. The project required a sensitive balance between historic authenticity and contemporary standards, ensuring key features were retained. The team used both traditional and modern techniques. resulting in a carefully restored medieval building that remains both authentic and fit for the future.

Linn Crematorium is housed within a distinctive mid-20th century building in the south of Glasgow.
City Building undertook a comprehensive two-phase refurbishment of the facility from July 2023 to May 2024, delivering full mechanical and electrical upgrades, restoring heritage features, and improving facilities for staff and visitors.
City Building’s team worked at pace to complete St. Mungo’s chapel and allow funeral services to return before adopting out-of-hours working patterns while renovating the St. Giles chapel next door, ensuring dignity for mourners.
Specialist contractors restored original pews and parquet floors, and controlled removal of asbestos materials was carried out.
